SHHH – No Quiet Quitting Allowed!!
A recent article in Digital Dealer discussed the growing difficulty in retaining talent in today’s dealerships. Reading between the lines, it is also telling of how the growing trend of quiet quitting is impacting the industry.
According to a recent survey by Cox Automotive, 68% of dealership employees say that pay and benefits are the most critical factors in their job satisfaction. It includes providing a higher base salary, commission, bonuses, and benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Wanting adequate compensation is far from unreasonable, and benefits are important to employees’ peace of mind and ability to perform, but sales jobs in particular have always been about performance. Commission driven compensation offers an upside that most salaried positions do not. So – for those who are confident in their ability to perform, lower base salary and even a lack of benefits should not be a deterrent. Conversely, those who do not intend to strive to perform might be less accepting of a meritocracy.
