Tesla’s Full Self Driving Feature Appears to be Half Empty
(Reuters) – Tesla Inc will recall more than 362,000 U.S. vehicles to update its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software after U.S. regulators said on Thursday the driver assistance system did not adequately adhere to traffic safety laws and could cause crashes.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the Tesla software allows a vehicle to “exceed speed limits or travel through intersections in an unlawful or unpredictable manner increases the risk of a crash.”
Another somewhat frightening reminder that AI has yet to be perfected to the point where we can allow ourselves to fall asleep at the wheel.
AI is an extremely hot subject this year. Chat GPT’s catapult to the height of mass media frenzy has brought the subject to the forefront in a new way, because the discussion is now more about a current reality than a potential future.
At BDC United we are in the people business, and know first hand that AI can not yet always be trusted to do what people can do. We find AI extremely useful for streamlining processes and enabling more cost effective personalized customer engagement, but we favor employing people to talk to people. For a process as important as purchasing a vehicle, well trained, experienced, human interaction continually proves to be the most effective solution for engaging and nurturing customers.
Don’t fall asleep at the wheel and allow your customers’ experiences to be driven off course by ineffective AI. Contact BDC United to learn more about employing our cost effective human touch for your dealership.
